Unlike the 2CV, which had models powered by 6 V and others powered by 12 V, the electrical system of all Mehari cars operates with a 12 V power supply, a voltage that characterises the vast majority of combustion engine cars designed from the 1960s to the present day. This somewhat simplifies the range of parts and accessories dedicated to the lighting and electrical system of the Mehari. This car has nevertheless undergone some changes, notably in its front end and dashboard, resulting in two generations of electric wiring looms, but also in the front lights (headlight + casing) and indicator lens, the round front indicator similar to the rear ones from earlier models being replaced by a rectangular lens from 1978. Interestingly, the round headlights of the Mehari are the same as those of the Dyane, with which it shares many other spare parts, their characteristic square shape is in fact given to them by the addition of a rectangular headlight surround. The Meharis of the limited series Azur have a specific headlight surround, as do the Mehari U.S., of which only a very small number were produced, and whose headlight surround is round. On the other hand, there was little change in the rear lights, with only the Mehari 4x4 having a specific rear light design. A foolproof electrical system

Even if you are never safe from a malfunction, in cars as elsewhere, prevention is better than cure. So don't hesitate to do a few checks from time to time. First of all, make sure every 5,000 km that the electrolyte level of your battery is sufficient, i.e. that the electrolyte covers the lead plates well and add demineralised water if necessary before recharging.
