Unlike the 2CV, the Mehari has not undergone any major changes to its upholstery during its history. In the months following the launch of this famous Citroën car in May 1968, almost all registered cars had a utility licence and only had two seats in the front. However, a decree adopted a few months later made it possible to travel legally with four people. It became possible to add a bench seat at the back and transform the Mehari into a 4-seater vehicle. If your registration card still only indicates two seats, a ministerial circular published in the Journal Officiel on 13/03/1987 confirms that the installation of a rear bench seat on a Mehari is not considered as a transformation and does not require a modification of the registration card. You can therefore convert it into a 4-seater without any problem.
Designed to be easy to maintain and resistant, the seats or benches can be easily replaced if necessary. On our website you can buy a Mehari front seat, left or right, ready to be installed (frame + foam + upholstery). The same goes for a rear bench seat ready to be installed (foam + upholstery) or for complete sets comprising two front seats and a matching bench seat. But you can also, if you wish, order most of the parts that make up these seats as well as a large number of accessories: rails and fixations, backrest or seat foam, seat straps, adjustment levers, different coloured front seat ABS backrest protective shells, etc.
Finally, you should know that we have developed our range over time with the addition of a tilting front passenger seat which does not require modification of the original supports. The driver's seat remains on sliders, while the passenger seat becomes fixed or tilting, depending on your choice at the time of purchase.

Mehari safety belts

As road regulations have evolved over time, the Mehari integrated its first safety belts for its front seats in 1977, more than 9 years after its launch. An essential element for the safety of the driver and passengers, the belt must meet strict technical requirements. Our approved "2-point" seat belts for Mehari have 2 anchor points fixed to the vehicle, for both the front and rear belts. Please note that the frame of our tubular chassis has been modified to comply with legislation and to integrate rear belt supports which did not exist originally.
