2CV cylinder barrels and pistons for all engine generations
All generations of the 2CV engine feature 2 cylinders in a flat position, giving Citroën's famous twin-cylinder engine the nickname 'Flat Twin'. As with all internal combustion engines, it is in each of these two 2CV cylinders that the pistons are activated to drive the crankcase and allow the engine to 'turn'. The pistons slide back and forth vertically within a removable cylindrical metal tube known as the cylinder liner; rings positioned around the piston ensure the piston/cylinder seal, lubricate the inside of the 2CV cylinder and cool the piston by transferring heat to the cylinder. These various mechanical parts can wear out, causing an immediate loss of engine performance and necessitating their replacement.
In this section, you'll find barrel/piston assemblies for all the different types of 2CV engine: 375cc, 425cc, 435cc and 602cc. We also offer a 'Big Bore' kit to increase the capacity of your Flat Twin to 652cc. Each set includes: 2 2CV cylinder barrels, 2 pistons and their ring sets, 2 piston pins and the circlips needed to secure them. Also available are ring sets of various thicknesses for 602cc engines, as well as other parts sold individually.
We invite you to visit our technical site to download our instruction sheet (in French) explaining the various stages in fitting a replacement cylinder barrel and piston (fitting the various piston rings, placing the piston in the liner and fitting the whole assembly to the crankcase and crankcase). To do this, you'll need ring pliers and a ring compressor.
