Technical Information
Details about the Product
Made from an original flywheel, it has been specially machined to considerably reduce its weight, from 12 kg down to just 5.2 kg, while retaining its original mounting specifications. This weight reduction lowers engine inertia: the engine revs up faster and responds more readily to the throttle, for a more dynamic and responsive behaviour. The flywheel is balanced to ensure optimal operation.
Particularly well suited to engine upgrades, this flywheel is an excellent choice for Burton vehicles or engines fitted with a 652 cc kit.
Role of the flywheel
An essential engine component, the flywheel is attached to the crankshaft with 5 bolts. It smooths out engine rotation by storing the energy produced during combustion and releasing it between each cycle. Located between the engine and the gearbox, it also connects to the clutch assembly to transmit engine torque. Its ring gear allows the starter motor to turn the engine over when starting.
Benefits
• Weighs 5.2 kg compared with 12 kg for the original flywheel.
• Reduced inertia for quicker revving.
• Sharper throttle response and more dynamic engine behaviour.
• Balanced flywheel.
Technical specifications
• Type: early-type lightened flywheel
• Engine: Citroën 602cc twin-cylinder
• Fitment: vehicles originally equipped before 1982
• Clutch compatibility: early-type 3-finger or diaphragm clutch assemblies
• Location: rear of the engine, gearbox side
• Mounting: 5 bolts on the crankshaft
• Weight: 5.2 kg (compared with 12 kg original)
Fitting advice
• When replacing the flywheel, check the condition of the friction surface, the correct positioning of the part and its compatibility with your vehicle's clutch assembly.
• The 5 mounting bolts must be tightened to the manufacturer's recommended torque to ensure a reliable and safe installation.
Please note: due to its reduced inertia, a lightened flywheel offers sharper throttle response but stores less energy at low engine speeds than a standard flywheel. Idling and smoothness at very low revs may therefore be slightly less steady.
